Winter season drives growth in the airline network and is expected to increase passenger traffic at Porto Alegre Airport

Airport to Offer More Flights on Domestic and International Routes

Following a record-breaking passenger volume from March through June, the 2026 winter season arrives at Porto Alegre Airport with an expanded flight network and an expected increase in the number of travelers passing through the terminal. Starting in late June, the airport will offer more flights on domestic and international routes, in addition to the addition of new seasonal destinations, expanding travel options for residents of Rio Grande do Sul and strengthening the capital’s connectivity with key tourism and business markets.

International destinations will offer more options on four routes: Buenos Aires, Argentina, will gain an additional flight operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, bringing the total to five weekly flights. Combined with the three flights operated by Latam, there will be a total of 8 direct weekly flights between Porto Alegre and Buenos Aires. Lisbon, Portugal, will have four weekly flights operated by TAP, with departures on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. To connect Porto Alegre to North America, the Caribbean, and Central America, Copa Airlines is expanding its service to Panama City, increasing from seven to nine flights per week.

As for Santiago, Chile, service will reach ten weekly flights starting in July, thanks to an increase in Latam’s operations and the launch of SKY’s seasonal routes during the winter.

The network will also be bolstered with new seasonal routes to destinations in high demand during the winter. Bariloche, Argentina, will receive two weekly flights operated by Azul; Maceió, in Alagoas, will have one weekly flight also operated by Azul. Both routes begin in July.

In addition to the seasonal routes, service to Salvador will be expanded with Latam adding three more weekly flights from June through August, in addition to Gol, which already operates the route. Gol will also begin operating a route to Foz do Iguaçu with two weekly flights starting in July.

This expansion of air service aligns with the typical seasonal demand, which traditionally drives tourism centered on snow-related activities, wine tourism, and gastronomy, while also catering to passengers who prefer warmer-weather destinations. For the period between June and August, Porto Alegre Airport is expected to handle an additional 2 million passengers, with a total of approximately 15,000 Flights scheduled during that time.

"The increase in the number of flights and destinations expands connection options and offers greater convenience to passengers. This expansion is the result of a joint effort between the concessionaire and the airlines, which recognize Porto Alegre Airport as an important gateway to Brazil and a strategic link connecting different countries. With this growth, we are strengthening options both for tourists visiting Rio Grande do Sul and for those seeking other destinations in Brazil and abroad for their vacations,” notes Pedro Navega, Commercial Aviation Manager at Fraport Brasil.

Airport Prepared to Welcome More Passengers

In addition to the expansion of its flight network, Porto Alegre Airport continues to invest in enhancing the traveler experience. The terminal is undergoing a renovation of its food court, located on the third floor, which will feature new spaces, different table layouts, seating, and charging stations for electronic devices, providing greater comfort and convenience for passengers.

This week, the airport also opened a new VIP lounge in the international departure area. The W Premium Lounge Porto Alegre, located on the third floor near Dufry, expands the range of amenities available to passengers on international flights. With this new addition, the terminal now has four VIP Lounges, strengthening its infrastructure to accommodate the growing flow of travelers and expanded air connectivity during the winter season.
