Porto Alegre Airport Sees 15% Growth in Commercial Operations

The increase was driven by the expansion of dining options and food services in general, as well as VIP Lounges

Porto Alegre Airport has seen a 15% increase in commercial operations since reopening following the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. The increase was driven by the expansion of dining options and food services in general, as well as VIP Lounges in the Passenger Terminal (TPS).

Currently, 90 commercial operations are in operation across the food and beverage, retail, mobility, and VIP Lounges segments. In May 2024, when the airport temporarily suspended operations due to the flooding, the number stood at 78.

Wide Range of Options

The fastest-growing segment at the airport was food and beverages, which rose from 34 in May 2024 to 44 during the same period this year—a 29% increase. Of the 44, two have been confirmed and will open in August.

The new establishments offer a variety of options to provide passengers with the widest range of experiences during their stay.

"We have a variety of brands, ranging from regional and national to international, always striving to offer the widest range of options to terminal users. We remain committed to establishing the airport as a full-service hub, prioritizing comfort, diversity, and quality in the passenger experience throughout their journey,” explains Fraport Brasil’s commercial director, Rodrigo Vieira de Sousa.

This year alone, new locations have opened for Crave Meat, Kopenhagen (marking its second location at the airport), and A Saideira, offering a wide variety of dishes, snacks, sweets, and beverages. A Bagaggio store—a Rio de Janeiro-based brand renowned for quality in the luggage and travel accessories segment—was also opened, as was a Black Sheep location, bringing a modern arcade into the terminal and offering entertainment and fun for visitors of all ages.

Since 2024, new locations have also opened for Mania de Churrasco, Doce Docê, Living Heineken (currently with three locations), Fini, Bella Gula, and Bob’s, among others.

More Openings

This week, two more establishments will open: Casa do Pão de Queijo, with its fourth location at TPS, offering hot dishes, savory snacks, sweets, and coffee; and Casa Bauducco, which will feature a grocery section with products for sale, and a café area serving savory and sweet snacks—such as slices of panettone and chocotone—and beverages.

Both new venues will be located in a public area, available to all airport visitors.

VIP Areas

In addition, the number of VIP Lounges has doubled in the terminal. Currently, there are four options: two in the domestic departure area (one operated by Ambaar and the other by W Premium) and two in the international departure area (managed by the same companies). These spaces offer comfortable accommodations and fine dining for those waiting for flights at the terminal.

Other Options

The airport also features additional facilities to serve visitors and passengers. There are 30 retail stores, offering a variety of items in fashion and clothing stores, bookstores, and gift and souvenir shops. There are also transportation service stores that offer ways to leave the airport and explore Porto Alegre and other cities in Rio Grande do Sul, such as car rentals, taxi and Uber services, and tickets for van and bus trips.
