Porto Alegre Airport returns to pre-flood passenger levels
More than 7.5 million travelers used the terminal in 2025
Porto Alegre Airport has returned to the level of passengers recorded in the period before the flood, which hit Rio Grande do Sul in 2024. The number of travelers using the terminal in 2025 was 7.513 million, slightly higher than the 7.480 million recorded in 2023. The Ministries of Ports and Airports (MPOR) and Tourism also joined the campaign.
Space was fully recovered by the end of 2024. However, the resumption of the air network depends on the decision and readjustment of each airline, its strategies and opportunities to increase the number of flights, destinations and frequencies. Thus, the return of air connections took place gradually over the past year.
Although the first half of 2025 was still slow in recovering, performance increased from the vacation period in June onwards, extending to the end of that year. As a highlight, in addition to the resumption of the domestic network, there was the return of international flights, such as to Portugal (TAP), and seasonal routes operated in 2025, such as Bariloche (Azul) and Santiago (Sky).
"This result reflects the joint work of the concessionaire, the airlines and the state government, which has worked to promote tourism and incentive actions with companies," says Pedro Navega, Fraport Brasil's commercial aviation manager.
Number of flights
The number of flights, including arrivals and departures, that have passed through the airport is also similar. In 2025, there were 67,313 flights, which represents almost 93% of the 72,639 recorded in 2023.
According to Navega, the data indicates a market trend.
"Over the years, we have seen a constant transformation in the sector, with airlines seeking ever greater efficiency. Thus, despite the reduction in the number of flights, there has been an increase in occupancy rates, optimizing space inside aircraft."
What's new in 2026
The year 2026 already sees more news for Porto Alegre Airport. One of them is the increase in the number of direct flights to Lisbon, a route operated by TAP Air Portugal.
The airline announced a fourth weekly frequency on the route, which will be available on Mondays from July 6. The new service will meet the demand for travel during Europe's high summer season.
Currently, the airline operates flights between the capital of Rio Grande do Sul and Lisbon on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
