Porto Alegre Airport receives Boeing 747, large cargo aircraft
"Queen of the skies" arrived in RS on Sunday (20/04)
Known as the "queen of the skies", a Boeing 747 landed at Porto Alegre Airport this Sunday (20/04). The arrival of the equipment and the high complexity that the operation requires is considered a historic moment for aviation in the city. The aircraft, hired by DSV Global Transport & Logistics, is of American origin.
It is the first time that an aircraft of this size has come to the capital since the airport was rehabilitated last year. The last time a cargo ship of this size was in Porto Alegre was in November 2023.
The freighter landed in Porto Alegre at 16:21. It left Incheon International Airport (ICN), in South Korea, at 1pm on Saturday (19/04) and made two technical stops before arriving in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. Later this Sunday, at 8pm, it will take off from Porto Alegre for Buenos Aires.
The aircraft brought 40 tons of high-tech machinery for production in Rio Grande do Sul. The cargo was ordered by HT Micron Semicondutores, a Brazilian company that provides advanced semiconductor solutions and is part of the South Korean Hana Micron group. The material will be used in the production of a new line of semiconductor integrated circuits for the computer and smartphone market.
"The operation marks an important moment for Rio Grande do Sul's economy, highlighting the infrastructure and capacity of Porto Alegre airport to receive large cargoes. It also reinforces the strategic role played by the people of Rio Grande do Sul in the high-tech sector," says Leila Zappe, who works in the Logistics sector at HT Micron.
Located in São Leopoldo, the company operates in the semiconductor components market, offering a range of innovative products to various segments of the country's electronics industry.
The mega-operation is possible due to the airport's infrastructure, managed by Fraport Brasil, and the size of the runway, with a total length of 3,200m, and patio positions capable of receiving large aircraft. The arrival of the Boeing 747 reinforces the importance of air transport in boosting the cargo market in Rio Grande do Sul.
In the same vein, the airport's International Cargo Terminal proves that it has full capacity to meet all the demands of the industry in RS.
"TECA International has the infrastructure and the trained staff to promote a delivery of this complexity. We know that those who work with these freighters expect agility in unloading the product, and we also work in this direction, so that the whole process is agile and satisfactory," explains Rodrigo Vieira de Sousa, Fraport Brasil's commercial director.
The aircraft's arrival was arranged by DSV Global Transport and Logistics, a Danish transport and logistics company that offers global air, sea, road and rail transportation services. The brand, which has its headquarters in Rio Grande do Sul, has a network of charter services around the world serving various industry segments.
